I was outside checkin' on the calf and he was being
such a hambone! He wants lots of attention! See the speck on his nose?
Thus the name "Speck"

How about a big ol' sloppy kiss??

Punch needle & The Garden Path!

Well, guess what...IT'S SNOWING...again! Expecting lake effect snow for the next 3 days! It is comin' down!! I am worried. I am supposed to host my first punch needle class tomorrow morning! I have a bunch of gals driving out here to no man's land! Hopefully it will not be too bad! I am excited to teach them the wonderful art of punch needle! I swear, once you try it, you'll be hooked! I have been punchin' like crazy! I am in the process of drawin' up more patterns too! I have more flowers and spring stuff! I really love love love snowmen, but I know we need to start thinkin' "WARM"!
Had a Master Gardener meeting last night. We are all taking photos of various garden art we see and making an online photo album. I have a garden path that I just love in the summer! When I dig out my photos I will post mine on here too! I love to put primitive looking things out there! I ahve this cool old glider that Beth and I got on the side of the road many years ago! Cutest darn thing! Can't sit in it...it will fall apart, but I love to walk by it! I will never forget that trip! She and I were actually on our way to a MS Walk and saw a pile of junk from the highway...on the way home we got off at the exit closest to the pile...we had a time trying to figure out how to get to that pile. And when we did...Oh man!! We loaded up her Ford Explorer! That was so much fun! So anyway, when I get those pics, I'll post them for all to see! Maybe you will get inspired!
Gotta get out to the barn!

Another new calf!

Well, I do not think everyone out there in blogland knows, but both of the calves in an earlier post had died. However, this Sunday we went and got another one! He is 6 weeks old and seems very healthy! Cody named him Speck because he has a black speck on his nose! He is adorable. He will be Cody's dairy beef feeder 4-H project!

Tori is busy working with her market steer. Brutus is getting big! You may remember pictures of him in one of my first posts! Check them out and then you can compare how much he has grown! We were going to tape him to see how much he weighed this weekend but time got away from us and we needed to go pick up Speck! We'll tape him this weekend and I'll let you know what he weighs! Any guesses??? Leave them in the comments! We'll see who gets closest!! Let's make it a contest and I'll send out a little something to the winner!! I do not even know the answer to that one yet! (But I am not allowed to play!)

Well, it's a cold brisk morning and I must get outside to feed these guys! Brrrr! It is supposed to be in the 40's today, but then it is dropping and we will be getting more snow! (Hurry spring!)

Get outside and enjoy the weather before it drops again! Have a great day!!

How much longer until SPRING??

I must say...I am ready for Spring to be here! I love the snow, but...once the Holidays are over, I want Spring! We had quite a January here in Northeast Ohio! We were 2 inches shy of the record which was made during the "Blizzrd of 1978"! For those of you from this area, you know what I am talking about! I think we were out of school for 1 week! I remember the National Guard was picking up employees that worked at the lcoal hospital so they could get to work! As children, it was GREAT! Snow day after snow day! Neighbors helping each other shovel! Bart remembers tying ropes to their waists to go out to the barn to feed and water the animals. They used ropes so that they would not get lost and could find their way back to the house in the white outs!
This year we had 40 inches of the white stuff in January! And the temps! Brrrr. Downright ridiculous! One day my thermometer read -17! I took a picture!! And that did not include windchills! Needless to say that during all that cold weather both of our calves did get sick and die. Very sad, but it's just one of those things! We hope to get more this weekend!
The home & flower show is going on in Cleveland, but I am sooo crazy busy that I will not have time to go this year! When I do go, I get Spring fever soooo bad! The smell of all that fresh mulch! Gosh! Looking at all those daffodils & tulips! After having below freezing temps last week, we are way above this week! Today it should be in the 50's...a southerly wind bringing rain & warm temps! But looking ahead I saw expected highs of 32 next week! That is the only bad thing this time of year in Ohio....who knows what you will have weatherwise! A winter coat in the morning, a spring jacket in the afternoon!
So all I ask today..."Spring, please hurry!!"
